FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- January 30, 2009 -- (SUNBURY, PA) – Weis Markets today issued a voluntary recall as a precautionary measure for seven of its ice cream products which may be contaminated with Salmonella since they contain peanuts supplied by the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) which has been linked to a national outbreak of salmonella. Two of these products were discontinued in August and September.
The following recalled products were manufactured by Weis Markets:
Weis Quality Premium Ice Cream Nutty Cone 56-ounce Sundae (UPC 041497-01238)
Weis Quality Light Ice Cream Nutty Cone 56-ounce Sundae (UPC 041497-01386)
Weis Quality Monkey Business 56-ounce Premium Ice Cream(UPC 041497-01223)
Weis Quality Light Ice Cream Tin Roof Sundae 56-ounce (UPC 041497-01385)-discontinued and out of stock since end of September)
Weis Quality Premium Ice Cream Peanut Perfection 56-ounce (UPC 041497-01236-discontinued and out of stock since end of August).
The following recalled items were manufactured by Fieldbrook Foods:
Weis Quality Round Top Sundae Cones 4-ct (UPC 041497-01157)
Carnival Sundae Cones 6-ct (UPC 041497-01105).
In addition, Weis Markets has also issued a recall for an eighth ice cream product manufactured by Weis Markets and supplied to Food City, which sells the ice cream in its retail stores in: Kentucky, Virginia and Tennessee. The product is sold as: Food City Premium Tin Roof Sundae Ice Cream 56-ounce (UPC 87848-10231).
