DENVER -- Eight children, between the ages of 4 and 12, have tested positive for the same Escherichia coli bacteria but officials don't know the connection.

The children live, or have been, in the Evergreen area but don't attend the same school, a health official told 7NEWS Friday morning.
Two of the children remain hospitalized as a result of infections from the potentially deadly bacteria.
State and County health officials are investigating deer or elk droppings, along with other behaviors in the Evergreen area where the children might have all come in contact.
The first infection case involving the O157: H7 strain was reported in July and the last case was reported on Oct. 22, health officials said. That strain of E. coli cause disease by making a toxin called Shiga toxin.

"State and local health officials are investigating possible sources of exposure, including deer and elk droppings, as well as common behaviors, activities, foods and drinks.
"We are doing a comprehensive investigation," said Gayle Miller, an epidemiologist with the Jefferson County Department of Health and Environment. "We don't have a smoking gun. We don't know yet what the source is."
The children, ages 4 to 12, do not attend the same school, but they live or have been in the Evergreen area, Miller said. Six of the cases are in Jefferson County, and two are in adjacent counties. Miller would not identify those counties.
An 11-year-old girl has been in Children's Hospital since Monday, her grandmother said Thursday.

Fulton Water Works Superintendent John Florek continues to collect water samples around the city today while he waits for the results of samples collected Monday. Florek says he suspects that test results will show that a sample taken from a small Fulton car dealership that tested positive for E. coli bacteria was an isolated incident. If that is confirmed, Florek said that a boil water advisory that has been in place since Saturday could be lifted by Wednesday afternoon.

BURLINGTON, Iowa - Southeast Iowa health officials have confirmed a third case of a virulent type of E. coli in the region.
The latest case involving the bacteria was confirmed Monday by the Des Moines County Health Department. In Lee County last week, health officials confirmed two cases.
The Iowa Department of Public Health says it has not determined the source of the illnesses.
Across the border in Hancock County, Ill., another possible case of E. coli was reported last Wednesday, but remained unconfirmed by state health officials.

They ask that everyone boil water for at least one minute before using it, otherwise, stick to bottled water.
Some symptoms of E.Coli contamination include nausea, diarrhea, cramps and headaches. If you are experiencing any of these, make sure you to seek medical attention.

E-Coli Surfaces in WI; Tainted Beef Blamed

Frozen ground beef patties produced at a plant in the Waukesha County community of Butler are making people sick from e-coli-related illness. The plant is owned by beef producer Cargill.
The patties have been pulled off Sam's Club store shelves nationwide after four kids in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area became ill from e-coli.
Now, there are three confirmed or suspected cases in Milwaukee County, and at least two more in southern and eastern Wisconsin.
Bevan Baker with the Milwaukee Health Department says their lab has been working the case since last week, before the recall was issued Saturday.

The Cargill patties were produced between Aug. 9 and Aug. 17 and were sent to retail establishments, restaurants and institutions nationwide…. Cargill is voluntarily recalling 845,000 pounds of frozen ground beef patties produced at its Butler, Wisconsin plant.”
As I posted earlier, Cargill has had problems with E. coli in the past and they have been tragically tied to Milwaukee."
