FDA Warns Consumers About Potentially Contaminated Cheese
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to eat Queso Fresco Fresh Cheese Mexican style soft cheese (two specific lots) or any Queso Cotija Molido Mexican style grated cheese manufactured and distributed by Peregrina Cheese Corp. of New York City. These products could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Café Favorites recalls Whole Grain 5" Super Sub Listeria monocytogenes

The product was sold to distributors in Maryland, Florida, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. The distributors in Florida, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania did not further distribute the product. The distributor in Maryland sold product to one school in the Washington DC area, where it was served. Students and staff should dispose of these sandwiches if they took them home. Anyone experiencing symptoms should consult their doctor.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 30, 2008 - Home Fresh Sandwich Distributors, Inc., a Denver, Colo., firm, is recalling approximately 172 pounds of burrito products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced today.

The burrito products were produced on Dec. 23, 2008, and sold at retail convenience stores in Colorado. Consumers may have purchased these burrito products on Dec. 24 and 25, 2008.

The problem was discovered through FSIS routine microbiological testing. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of this product.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- October 21, 2008 -- Portland Shellfish Co., Inc., South Portland, Maine is voluntarily recalling Frozen, Cooked -Claw Island brand Lobster Claw and Knuckle Meat, Lot 25508, packaged in 2 lb bags, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- October 21, 2008 -- Portland Shellfish Co., Inc., South Portland, Maine is voluntarily recalling Frozen, Cooked -Claw Island brand Lobster Claw and Knuckle Meat, Lot 25508, packaged in 2 lb bags, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. The product was distributed to Pagano's Inc., 142 Water Street, Norwalk, CT and further distributed to restaurants.

The product is identified as K Maine Lobster Meat, packed by Portland Shellfish Co., South Portland, Maine. Each master carton contains 6/2 lb bags of claw and knuckle meat, Lot code 25508 and expiration date March 12, 2010.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered through random testing that the product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. Consequently, we are recalling this lot from the market. Other lots are not involved. The company is continuing testing and has to date not discovered any other Listeria issues.
