FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- DEERFIELD, Ill., Feb. 1, 2009 – Walgreens is recalling four types of Walgreens brand chocolate candy containing peanuts sold in stores from Jan. 1, 2007 to Jan. 29, 2009. The candy manufacturer notified Walgreens today that the candy contains peanuts from Peanut Corporation of America (PCA). PCA is the focus of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigation into potential salmonella contamination of peanut butter and paste. Though Walgreens is not aware of any reported cases of illness related to these products, it has issued this voluntary recall as a precautionary measure.
Walgreens has already instructed its stores to stop selling the following products:
WALGREENS BRIDGE MIX 3.5 OZ, 4 OZ, 14 OZ and 15 OZ
WALGREENS CHOCOLATE COVERED PEANUTS 3.5 OZ, 4 OZ, 13.5 OZ and 15 OZ
WALGREENS CARAMEL NUT CLUSTERS 3.5 OZ, 4 OZ, 13.5 OZ and 15 OZ
WALGREENS CHOCOLATE PEANUT CLUSTERS 3.5 OZ and 4 OZ
Walgreens takes the safety of its customers seriously and is working with the FDA on this recall. For additional information, please contact Walgreens Product Quality department at 847-315-2755, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central time. Customers who purchased the recalled products should discontinue use immediately and return items to Walgreens for an exchange or refund.
